Top International placings for Irish-bred horses at Dublin Horse Show.
Last week’s Dublin Horse show once again attracted many of the world’s top horse and rider combinations. With many a thrill, and a few spills, competitors strove to put forward their best as they tackled the tough tracks on the famous grass of the Main Arena.
There was hot competition in the international Showjumping classes, but seven Irish-bred horses managed to fight their way in to the top three of several classes throughout the week. Of these seven horses, two of them produced winning performances.
The traditionally bred Ardcolum Duke (ISH) (TIH) claimed the top prize in the Minerva Stakes on Wednesday. With Billy Twomey (IRL) on board the pair produced a clear round in a time of 54.46 seconds, narrowly beating fellow countryman, Darragh Kenny on Cassini Z (OLD), in to second place (54.95 seconds). Third place was also taken by an Irish-bred horse, Silver Lift (ISH) ridden by Harriet Nuttall (GBR), jumping clear in a time of 55.25 seconds.
The second Irish-bred winner of the week came in the form of the striking CMS Tallulah (ISH), on Saturday. Richard Howley (IRL) guided the tall and talented mare over the imposing Landrover Puissance wall, clearing 2m20 in the fourth round. This resulted in a four way tie for the winner’s purse with Padraic Judge (IRL) on Citi Business (AES), Michael Pender (IRL) on Hearton Du Bois Halleux (BWP) and Pedro Junqueira Muylaert (BRA) on Chacote (OLD).
Other notable results for Irish-bred horses during the show included third place for GRC Acapella (ISH) and Gemma Phelan (IRL) in the International 7-8 year old class on Wednesday, third place for the multi-talented Quality Old Joker (ISH) and Holly Smith (GBR) in the Speed Derby on Thursday, third place for Pacifico (ISH) and Clem McMahon (IRL) in the Royal Dublin Society Stakes on Saturday, and third place for the successful Limestone Grey (ISH) and Lorenzo de Luca (ITA) in the Qatar Airways Speed Championship on Sunday.
